It sounds very strange with some interaction between the padding
variable and the note heads. Anyway, I don't see that happening
here. As I already mention, I use the absolutely latest development
version, which is 2.1.15 plus some additional patches. Note that
the original 2.1.15 had a serious bug so that no automatic beams
were typeset, so don't install that one.

If you mean that the noteheads are lost in the .png, I can't
repeat the problem here. If you have some other problem in mind,
please explain it more clearly. The result from the latest
development version from todays CVS, looks fine to me.

Hi Mats,

Thanks for checking this out for me at your end.

The missing noteheads was exactly what I meant. If I comment out the
 \property Voice.DynamicLineSpanner \set #'padding = #2

line, then everything displays/prints out normally (except that the
crescendo hairpin needs to be moved down).
I'll see if Ferenc has a more recent Debian Woody version available for
download as it sound like that may fix the problem. Which version of
LilyPond are you running?

When I add padding to have a crescendo hairpin symbol drop down a bit
I get a strange result - see attached PNG file.

Here's an example of what I'm trying to do:

%--------- lily code example start ----------

#(set-global-staff-size 19)

\paper  {
 indent = 0.0\mm
 raggedright = ##t
 papersize = "letter"
}

\version "2.1.13"

\score {
 \notes \relative c' {
c b a \property Voice.DynamicLineSpanner \set #'padding = #2 b \< \times 2/3 {g-> a-> b->} c d\!

 } % notes
} %score

%--------- lily code example end ----------

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
