Here's another puzzle: I tried Doug's code by throwing it in behind
that file I sent recently. It looked fine. There was no vertical
line. But my score was still exhibiting strange artifacts etc. Then I
swapped their positions. I put Doug's file first, and then mine. The
vertical line he mentions then appeared, but the odd stuff in my score
went away! Run by itself, I see the vertical in his code, too.
I suspect that bit of information will either really confuse things, or
lead quickly to a solution.
