With current CVS, this

\paper {
    indent = 0.0\mm
    linewidth = 70.0\mm
  }

\relative {
    a''1-.--( a-.--)\fermata a\fermata
}

already does something sensible; but more interesting cases still
fail.  This needs some thought.
