You can try this for instance:

dvips  -t a4 -u+ec-mftrace.map -u+lilypond.map -Ppdf simple >/dev/null 2>&1

This should do the trick, because it redirects the stdout to the great 
reservoir of discarded bits and then redirects stderr to stdout.
