Hi.

I use version 2.2.6.

Also, when there are sustain markings on the score, the short
instrument name ("Staff.instr") is not centered correctly: instead
of being at mid-height of the staff, it seems to be centered with
respect to the total height between the sustain line and the top
line of the staff.

This is clearly a bug! The vertical placement of the instrument name
seems to be centered relative to the total extent of the Staff,
including the sustain pedals. Example (for version 2.4):

\version "2.4"
\new Staff { \set Staff.instrument = "Instrument" \clef bass
  c4 \sustainDown c''2 c4 \sustainUp}

I don't really understand what's going on here, since notes with ledger
lines don't change the alignment of the instrument name, even if they
change the total vertical extent of the Staff.
