the Ghostscript package on LilyPond.org was compile on FC3, so I guess I have to make a separate FC4 ghostscript.

I think your problem is a general Linux issue, nothing specific to Ghostscript or LilyPond. When you start a program, the loader looks for libraries that have to be loaded dynamically. A number of directories are searched by default, including /usr/lib/ and /lib/. Read the man pages for ld.so and ldconfig and possibly some FAQ for your 64bit system to learn how to make the loader search in the desired directory. /Mats
