If you temporarily remove the staff change in the left hand part, you will
notice that the staccato by default are written above the note heads (actually in the opposite direction of the stems), so in your example they are overwritten
by the left hand notes.
There are two simple solutions:
- Explicitly specify that you want the staccato below the notes using
 a_. instead of a-.

- Use \voiceTwo instead of \stemDown, which not only sets the stem directions but also changes the properties of slurs, dynamics, articulations, ... so they
 are directed downwards.
