new development version any x86 installer fails on Debian sid

I just tried the new development version x86 installer.  There are 
almost no instructions on the website so I made the downloaded 
executable and got:

Making /usr/local/lilypond/
Creating script /usr/local/bin/lilypond
Untarring ./lilypond-2.7.27-1.linux.sh

gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child died with signal 13
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
