PDF files are almost 2 orders of magnitude bigger on 2.7 than on 2.6

The attached small lilypond file (but as far as I know, all lilypond
files) compiles on both 2.6 and 2.7 (this morning's CVS).  However,
the pdf files are very different sizes:

-rw-r--r--  1 newlily newlily  13035 Feb 24 14:40 test-2.6.pdf
-rw-r--r--  1 newlily newlily 665766 Feb 24 14:38 test-2.7.pdf

I think this is a fairly critical problem.

In addition, the friend who drew my attention to this problem found
that neither the 2.6 nor the 2.7 pdf files would display correctly
with Acrobat 3.0 on Mac OS 9.  Is this a known problem?
