There was a discussion about providing a guide to installed internal 
stuff (ie share/current/lilypond/ ly, scm, etc).  I think this is 
exactly the kind of thing you want... I'm not going to be working on 
this until late April, but somebody else wants to learn about it and 
document it as they go along, I'd be more than happy to add that to the 
docs.  ;)

To get you started, have a look at the directories that lilypond 
installs.  If you can't find them, let me know what OS you use.  In 
OSX, open up a terminal, find the LilyPond.app file, and then cd into 
that "file" -- in OSX, installed programs are actually directories.  
Poke around inside there.
