Hmm... it shouldn't be too hard to add. Take a look at ly/titling-init.ly (especially since you were wanting to learn more about the next level of lilypond stuff. :)

A simple alternative is to just reuse any other of the header fields
that you don't use and that's printed at the spot you want it.

I personally don't bother so much about the names of the different
fields. If you want some text to appear at the place where the default titling typesets the opus, for example, just use that field.
On the other hand, I really like the LaTeX idea of separating contents
from layout and by redefining the titling functions in LilyPond, this
is also possible to do.
