huge pdf file-sizes

After upgrading from 2.6.5 to 2.8 and recompiling my sheets, the new pdfs were
up to 100 times larger than the previous ones. For example, a test.ly that looks
like
\layout { ragged-right = ##t }
{ c'4 e' g' }
produces a pdf 198kb in size, whereas the ps file is only 13 kb large (and ps
files tended to be larger in previous versions). For larger pieces the pdf
outputs are 20 mb or more.

I run Lilypond on a Windows Server 2003 (I know this platform isn't officially
supported, but 2.4 and 2.6 run perfectly on it).
