It looks like in lily 2.8.0, when you get the message:
warning: can't find line breaking that satisfies constraints
lily not only fails to break the line and spills notes off the page
(which has always been the case), it also fails to draw the staff
lines. This results in even wierder-looking scores than we used to
get in polyphonic music where the parts have wildly different
rhythms.
I actually consider both behaviors bugs, but not drawing the staff
lines makes the bug where some or most of the notes have spilled off
the page even harder to deal with.
Attached is a zipfile of an example. If you need a simpler example, I
can do it some day when I'm not trying to print music for a rehearsal
that night.
