Thanks, the last bugfix was completely wrong. Fixed in CVS now.

This is disputable. an 8th is a beat, so the two 16ths form a complete 
beat, so they should be grouped.

workaround:

  \time 6/8
  \set beatLength = #(ly:make-moment 3 8)
