I know that the brackets were never really guaranteed to align, and in some
cases that may even be desirable, for example in this sort of situation:
\alternative{
{c4 c c c}
{c''' c c c}
}
My point is that the behaviour is now much worse, and if the doc page is
anything to go by, volta brackets are guaranteed *not* to align. I've attached
a snippet of a real world example I nearly gave to someone today which involves
a rehearsal mark on top of the 2nd time bar -- the extra space is neither
necessary nor acceptable (although it does show off the skylining rather well!)
