Ha!  Easily!  (a) it's missing in the user docs.  (b) the doc
string in lilypond-internals is more than cryptic.  (c) I wonder
why I have to set this variable at all since a clef *always* needs
some space after it.

Thanks.  However, this doesn't help me at all.  To really understand
this flag you have to know how lilypond handling spacing wishes, and
this is poorly documented.  And I still think that a clef always needs
space after it.
Agreed! It seems that some combination of a minimum
space and some stretchable space with a specified
ideal length would be more appropriate.
