These things can happen if you have a problem in your file, that makes LilyPond
crash. Have you tried some example that you know for sure that it works?

The "catalan.ly" I used is shipped together with Lilypond, so it should work.
That file doesn't contain any music, it just contains some definitions so that
you can specify the note names in Catalan instead of Dutch.

please read the Tutorial to find examples that actually produce any output.
As a first step, you can just double-click on the LilyPond icon on your
desktop and follow the instructions you see in the text file that's shown.
