No, this *is* exactly the same problem.  As a follow-up, I sent an
email to -devel about "usr/bin/env python" (or something like
that).

Edit lilypond-book (inside the LilyPond.app package) and replace
#!/usr/bin/python
with
#!/usr/bin/env python

That will use the python in your path.

This is still a problem for normal OSX users (ie people who
haven't installed macports or fink), though.  :(
