Issue 652: create glyphs dynamically instead of PS code
http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=652
New issue report by lemzwerg:
The problem of dynamically created PS code for staves, barlines, and
similar things is its awkward appearance on-screen at low resolutions.
Instead, I suggest to create glyphs dynamically, with proper hinting
applied to them.
For proper positioning, a normal staff should consist of five line glyphs –
have five lines as a single glyph would cause unpredictable vertical
positioning which could conflict with the vertical positions of note heads.
The immediate benefit would be that staff and bar lines are positioned on
whole pixel lines.
BTW, it probably makes sense to disable glyph hinting for the lilypond
fonts currently; I have already observed that the display engines shift the
hinted glyphs vertically which causes imprecise positioninig.
