which tipped the balance in favour of inaction on windows.
I work differently now w.r.t. pdf refresh,
but commenting out the delete never gave me any trouble (on XP).
And note that W_OK only tells you about the (static) read-only attribute.
So Lilypond always tries to delete, whether the file is locked or not.
