Ah, are you sure you applied the path to absolutely latest git master? 
Before yesterday noon (commit dd5394bdc93f9da491a778782bdeb6e0236d4e9a), 
master had a but in the replace_all routine, so that 
replace_all(&str, "\"","\\\"") would go into an endless loop (since 
lilypond would try to replace the " of the just-inserted \" again, which 
again inserted a ", which lilypond tried to replace again, etc.
