Try 'man nice'.
...and don't produce any output nor does it print anything besides
the version number.
Such details are good to mention in bug reports.
If I try 'lilypond' no arguments, then it behaves in a similar way
under 10.5.8. So perhaps it does not see that file you want to compile.
