In my copy of the CG, the command is
  git format-patch origin
where did you see the HEAD ?  That sounds like an svn-type command (svn is  
the most
widely used versioning source control program), so somebody (probably me)  
must have
written it by mistake.

You don't need to reset anything -- if you see your status as being "1  
commit ahead",
then the commit is already in there.

BTW, after you've finished this, please PLEASE check out issue 854.  The  
whole point
of this gui is to avoid these problems... I'm not really thinking about you  
using it
long-term (in another week or two, the command-line git stuff will seem  
much easier),
but as the newest lilypond contributor, your opinions about issue 854 will  
be very
valuable in making it easier for the *next* contributor who comes along.
