The only stripping around that timeframe that I can see is:

Only the first of these seems relevant; it keeps two directories which were
previously removed:
  share/ghostscript/*/Resource/
  share/gs/*/Resource/

I can't pretend to know enough about ghostscript that I'd judge whether we  
want to
keep the Resource directories or not.  This explains the extra 8 megs,  
though.
