Hmm. It would be helpful if there *was* such a difference. I've
added some text to explain the current not-really-specified state of
affairs.

... wow, I had a completely broken solution for the problem. Thanks,
fixed in git (for the third time, so who knows if this'll actually
work. I might be deluding myself again)
