I've copied this to bug-lilypond so an issue can get made on the tracker,
but I doubt this will get worked on in the near future.

As a workaround, you can move out of chord mode into note mode and enter the
chord explicitly:

<c g ges g gis>

This works just fine, but the naming is a bit off right now.
