http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=684MultiMeasureRestText is a perfect example of an "arbitrary grob" that should be align-able. At the moment, the only three "align-worthy" grobs I can think of are
MetronomeMark, RehearsalMark, and MultiMeasureRestText...
