Just for correctness:
I think there's a little misunderstanding. The number after "tremolo"  
doesn't indicate the number of notes to be included in the tremolo, but the  
number of repetitions.
So the above snippet should rather contain:
"    \repeat tremolo 2 { b8. c' }
     \repeat tremolo 2 { b8. c' d }"
as the intended difference is between the curly brackets not the 2 vs. 3
