I'm not sure if I'd like LilyPond to change the dynamics direction on its  
own behalf. In my scores I just write a \dynamicUp command when I want the  
dynamics above the music.

I have some choir scores with one voice per staff and both dynamics and  
lyrics below the staff. I move the dynamics to the left so they don't stick  
out too far.

It is nice if LilyPond has /some/ intelligence or heuristics for setting  
good defaults (e.g. setting 'staff-affinity based on lyrics context  
position) but in this case the code would probably end up quite hairy and  
complicated while it's so easy to document that the user should write a  
\dynamicUp if he/she wants so.
