There's an implication in Jan's comment that we now have an engraver  
(completion_rest_engraver) which is explicitly denied in NR 1.2.3 Automatic  
note splitting, but which more importantly, seems to set a *minimum*  
version number.  Presumably, it would be safe setting 2.12.3 as the  
hardwired one, but only if users never triggered rest splitting.
