The following patches were backported to affect beam collision:

f9116bac398f9  Fixes cross staff issue with beam collision avoidance.
104566603d9338  Updates documentation re beam collision avoidance and  
cross-staff beams.
e0679ba2d5af  Fixes issue 1613.
b8bea0c45176  Modifies regtest to check for tricky large collisions.

All three examples are working as of commit
