I still think it would be too weird to hide the make commands with -s -- in my experience, every project that uses automake prints such output. I suspect that suppressing those commands would cause more problems than it would save.

I _do_ like the use of bib-terese, as well as suppressing more output from extract_*.py. Could I get that patch uploaded to a fresh reiveld issue for review?

Since you have a patch pushed now, please close the previous reitveld issue. Do not close this google tracker issue.
