'improve'? I don't think it is an improvement at all. It's worse.

Does mine (and the other's who also preferred the original) opinion not  
count?

If it does count then I vote FOR overrides. I am not a programmer or know  
how to use metafont and I simply cannot 'roll my own glyph'. So I am losing  
something here.

The difference between old and new glyphs may not seem much to you, but it  
screams out at me, there's a huge difference.
