Sorry, just to double-check:
- ppc version works on your 10.5.8 ppc machine
- x86 version fails on your 10.5.8 x86 machine??  I'm a bit surprised,  
since I didn't think that I changed anything for the x86 version... maybe  
all apple users are using osx 10.6 or 10.7, but that seems unlikely?

If the x86 version is actually failing on x86 machines, it may be this one:
