I would not bother.  I actually have thought about reverting the patch I  
did.  The reason is that the code in lily.scm (cf comment 3) actually  
_overwrites_ the definition of format with one that can deal with the  
syntax without target port.

That we get errors with guile-2.0 is not due to a change how format works,  
but rather because the override in lily.scm stops working for some reason.

If one can fix that reason, the whole motivation for this issue goes away.
