This is the same problem as 1506.

I just sent off a piece where I used Neil's fix to this problem (posted on the 
1506 page) and it worked beautifully.  Neil is busy these days with various and 
sundry, but if it is OK to adopt a patch so that it can get into current master 
soon, I don't mind throwing it up on Rietveld and shepherding it.  Lemme know 
if that's cool w/ you, Neil.
