The approach outlined in the patch will about double the effort for relativizing music when done correctly. In my opinion, it would make more sense to let q not record any pitches at all, only the _current_ duration and postevents, and let the serializer (or whatever the stage before time-sorting music in preparation for iteration is called) deal with assigning pitches to the repeated chord.

That would lead to clean, predictable behavior completely transparent to pitch transformations and music juggling like that of \parallelMusic.
