Which version of LilyPond are you using?
Do you use LilyPond packaged by Ubuntu (installed via Synaptic) or a
version downloaded from lilypond.org ?
It is recommended to use the "official" LilyPond, not the one packaged
by a linux distro in order to report only issues due to LilyPond itself.

Then it would be great to provide a minimal example of code generating
the issue (by trying to reduce your score to this minimal example).
