http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=2069 Carl, can you post the reason /why/ you like the old version? Is it only because the chord names are unusually close,or should they always affect bar spacing as if they were notes in the chord ?
The chord names above are in their own staff-like like, a ChordNames context. In stable LilyPond, the chord names /usually/ slide over the bar lines, because they are spaced like lyrics, which we do want to slide under barlines. Very rarely, they get so close that they catch the padding around the bar-lines.
It would be simpler if ChordNames in their own context were spaced like Lyrics (consistenly, after I fix issue 2058). I think chord names can be placed as markup on the chords, in which case they would influence spacing just like the notes.
