Following was sent to the bug-lilypond:

reading under preview in
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.15/Documentation/usage-big-page#running-lilypond
one could get the impression that -dpreview only works with the mentioned
ps, eps and svg backends (or - as written sometimes - back-ends). but of
course it also works with png and pdf. (or maybe i'm missing what was
intended)

i propose to change the text into:

"This option is not only supported by the standard formats pdf and png but
also by the ps, eps, and svg backends."
or
"This option is supported by all backends except scm."

also i would rather mention that an additional output file is generated.

"a file of the form myFile.preview.extension is generated."

and a hint how to only generate the preview without the standard output
should point to the print-pages option just below:

"see also option -dprint-pages / -dno-print-pages below"
