Julien: I'm not going to claim that this is invalid, but I don't think you  
should be working on it unless you know exactly what GUB is doing, so that  
you can either avoid that problem or modify GUB accordingly.

I also don't think this is particularly important, since Patchy can compile  
stuff with no-optimising.  I don't know if he does or not, but a one-line  
fix to Patchy would be way less intrusive than any other solution.
