Comment #29 on issue 1110 by address@hidden: Wrong octave of repetition chord with \relative and #{ #} syntax
http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=1110

Concerning comment #27: I was not complaining, and I have not claimed ownership of this issue anyway. There is not much enthusiasm by others to pick it up, and there is not much enthusiasm on my side to pick it up before I get other things tackled since I don't particular like this feature, and the difficulty of actually determining how to make it behave usefully in different contexts, as witnessed by a stream of problem reports of which this is only the last in a sequence, gives some clue why this is one feature for which it is much easier to hack a "proof of concept" rather than to get something working reliably and predictably. I don't consider "have a totally different implementation and definition when \relative is used" sane semantics, but I don't see a sensible way around this except scrapping everything and reimplementing at a fundamentally different level.

As to it becoming a "properly documented part", it would seem comment #28 addresses this:

Issue 2137 "NR improve 'visibility' of 'q'" is not actually allaying any documentation concerns of this issue. It will likely cause additional influx of reports for issue 1110, however.
