http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=2146I can confirm that putting this at the top of notation.tely gets rid of the "Illegal entry in bfrange" error messages when making notation.pdf. We also have the correct Cyrillic and Numero characters. The web build appears unchanged and make doc builds correctly. Excellent - thanks Werner.
We now need to decide how to apply the fix. I believe it would work by adding it once, to macros.itexi, although it's not really a macro. Alternatively, it could be added to each manual, which is a much larger job. Thoughts, anyone?
