I've seen several problems come up with auto beaming over the past two  
years that could all be solved by running the music stream through a music  
function before hitting the engraver.  These problems stem from the fact  
that beams are announced at later timesteps than those at which they are  
created.

The good news is that there's already lots of good Scheme code in place -  
someone just has to nix the engraver and write a function that combs  
through music to populate it with beam events.
