I may be wrong, but i don't agree. Beaming them together would be
against the rhythmical subdivision in 6/8 and 3/4 meters.

2.14.2 had a bug about direction of beamlet:

I think fixing this bug caused the change in behaviour you observe.
It is a desired change.
