I haven't had time yet to install the latest GS version (9.05). Any
takers?

Just create PDFs, move them into a separate directory and do
for i in *.pdf; do
cat $i.pdf | pdftoppm | pnmtopng > `basename $i .pdf`.pgn
done
I'm using pdftoppm 0.18.3 (from poppler).
