Open source code does tend to get worked on by several people simultaneously.
Presumably you have started stomping over the note-collision code. For
issue 984 it sounds like we need to work in with individual note shapes,
rather than pick one note-head as the standard note-head-width. A small
change in that direction fixes issue 1713. I'll post a patch there but
wait to see if it is compatible with your work.
