To save you some time experimentation: I think I remember trying to do
this (which would be an obvious way to footnote lyrics) and I think, as
opposed to top-level markup, the footnote itself does not make it to the
page then.
Since this is an obvious placement for a markup footnote, it might be
worth creating a separate issue for that and ask for the footnote text
to migrate to the bottom of the page in this special case of markup
footnote as well.
