ok, the solution is to wrap fingerings, string numbers and stroke fingers
into a chord (< … >)

but, reading the docs you can find examples where they are /not/ in chord
brackets (although they are not supposed to be displayed in the Staff
context) - I think it's bad style to show code which will only work in
specific cases. when I saw these examples I didn't think further and thought
'how nice, this works now'
