Thanks for the report.

This is a known bug in your libc - it does not obey C99 or POSIX when it
comes to using ungetc() with bytes other than what were previously read
from the stream. Fortunately, m4 does not use ungetc() in this manner, so
it will not trigger the bug in you libc. The test is from gnulib, which
is more demanding on what it tests because it is included in more programs
than just m4.

You can go ahead and install m4 in spite of your buggy libc.

You may also want to try out a snapshot, which will become m4 1.4.12
(although the same two gnulib tests will still likely fail, as no one has
contributed a workaround for your platform's buggy ungetc).

It is considered poor netiquette to send mail to publicly archived mailing
lists with an unenforceable disclaimer. Some people refuse to reply to
such mail on principle. You may want to consider using a different email
account. Additionally, sending HTML mail with a copy of the disclaimer
encoded in a .jpg is not bandwidth friendly, either; plain text is sufficient.
